Occasionally, life will present with some of the most challenging things. This is not negative thinking, it just the nature of life. Part of these experiences are also meant to mature us and prune us in our life journey. But there moments when things can just hit hard. Such moments can cause us to question ourselves, beat ourselves up, revert to self-pity and even question God.
Psalm 77 in its entirety is an example of fellow human like you and I who was pushed there by “life”. Asaph wrote this Psalm; he wrote it in 4 sections. In the first part, he cries in desperate anguish about his problems. In the second section, he gets into questioning God, but in the upcoming sections Asaph remembers his past; how God intervened mightily to deliver them. Asaph concludes his agonizing prayer with expressions of God’s power and strength.
You may be there right now. You may be experiencing what humanly seems impossible. You could be in the worst place you “think” you’ve been; but I encourage to recall remember your past. Remember the last thing the Lord brought you out of -draw your strength from that!
Remember the last-minute breakthrough, remember the answer or provision that came at the nick of time. When you had no food, and someone dropped off grocery, when you had no tuition, but the registrar allowed you to take classes, when you applied for visas and at the tenth application you got one. When your vehicle got repossessed, but you still got one, when you had invested all in a lover who used you instead; God kept your sanity and walked you through restoration.
God is still very much involved in your affairs even in the times of adversity. Satan will target when you are emotionally down with whispers such as God has left you, this is it, there is no way out, you better quit, this is too much…to get you to believe these lies. That how he got Eve sin. Once you believe the lie, unbelief sets in. Unbelief will often lead to sin.
Secondly, satan’s main goal is to steal, kill and destroy. This is how vicious satan is. You may think he would stop at killing- oh no, he is determined to destroy after he is done killing. You see the death that satan aims at is not limited to physical death. Satan aims to kill and destroy your emotions, your ability to think, your ability to plan, your finances, your focus, your health…ultimately, he wants to destroy and kill your IDENTITY and your DESTINY. When satan can make you believe that you are not what God made you to be… next he will want to destroy your purpose and destiny because you cannot pursue purpose/destiny when you don’t know who you are! That is where identity crisis comes in.
Third-When satan feeds you false beliefs about yourself and you believe them, it will affect your emotions. Eventually this will lead to depression. Depression kills your joy, Depression destroys emotionally, mentally, physically and other aspects of life. Do not feed into satan’s whispers of low self-worth, of defeat, of failure, the list goes on. God’s go the whole world in His hands, Come On!. The Joy of the Lord is your STRENGTH. The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. Receive the Holy Spirit. Receive JOY!
Remember the power of God. Remember the Voice of the Lord that shatters the cedars, shakes the wilderness and divides the flames of fire-Psalm 29.
This week focus on the strength of your past. When life’s challenges come, draw your strength and courage from the last thing God did for you. Draw faith and confidence from God’s power. We overcome by the Blood and the Word of YOUR, yes, your own testimony-Revelation 12:11. There is strength in your past
