Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom. “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink? “We can,” they answered.esus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.” When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. Matthew 20:20-28
While listening to these scriptures this week, I was encouraged by the audacity of this mother. She knew what she wanted for her sons and she cut through the source and went to the Giver. I’m sure in her days, there were cultural constraints, religious laws and even worse, Jesus was surrounded by 12 disciples let’s say 12 armor bearers, but she did not care, she pressed through and boldly asked the Lord. Guess what, her request was granted!
Since 2014 the Lord has continually instructed me to JUST ASK, DO THE ASKING. I sense that there is more and greater things God wants to do in and with us and to also give us, if we only ask!
From the scriptures, the other 10 disciples were offended after the 2 were granted their requests. Actually as I read, I laughed thinking, all 10 of them were right there with Jesus, all they had to do is ask also, why take offense?. This brought me to think about contentions and strife within the Body of Christ and amongst believers, all we need to do is ask. To curb coventiouness and envy in all areas of our lives, all we have to do ask the Lord.
As you see in the Scriptures, Jesus first said yes to some things, “it’s not in my place to grant” in other things, and to some things He will tell you NO. We too have free access to Jesus; the heavens are constantly open for our access. All we have to do is ASK. So this week ask audaciously, ask boldly, ask without limitations, and ASK BIG!
