(PART 1) LOVING THE UNPLEASANT ENVIRONMENT

In studying the principles of growth, advancement, and success, one recurring theme is the transformative power of love. Yet extending love can be particularly challenging when one finds oneself in an unpleasant, difficult, or adversarial environment. Not every difficult situation is divinely appointed; some result from impatience, personal ambition, poor decisions, or rebellion. However, there are also circumstances that may serve a greater purpose within God’s plan.

One reason God may allow a person to remain in an unpleasant environment is that the environment itself may be part of their assignment. Depending on one’s calling, the very territory that appears difficult may be the place where God intends transformation to occur. Meaningful transformation rarely happens without genuine care and commitment. To positively influence a place, one must first develop a love for its people and its purpose.

A second reason is that difficult environments often serve as training grounds for character development and spiritual growth. Frequently, growth occurs through challenging relationships, demanding circumstances, or disorganized situations that require wisdom, patience, leadership, and perseverance. In such settings, individuals are stretched beyond their comfort zones and given opportunities to cultivate qualities that might otherwise remain undeveloped.

If you are currently in a challenging environment, consider changing your perspective and ask this question: “What areas in my life is God trying to develop?”
